Jason Mraz is a Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter, and musician. He is also a humanitarian, using his popularity to support several important causes. He recently released his latest single, I Won’t Give Up. It is a preview of his upcoming album titled Love Is a Four-Letter Word expected to be released on May 8, 2012.
How will the single be marketed?
Jason Mraz understands the power of photos when it comes to marketing. He already has a large following of iPhone users on Instagram (180,808 followers when I checked today). One way the new single is being promoted is through a photo contest.
From now until February 20, Jason Mraz’s fans are encouraged to post a photo to Instagram that best represents what I Won’t Give Up means to them and tag the photo with the hastag #IWONTGIVEUP. He will select 25 winners from the entries. The winners’ photos will be printed on 20” x 20” canvases provided by CanvasPop. The art will be displayed at a gallery event in New York City on March 8 where winners will be invited to attend and have their prints signed by Jason Mraz in person.
“I am grateful for everyone who has heard the love in ‘I Won’t Give Up,’ and I’m excited to see how the song translates into so many visual interpretations,” said Jason Mraz.
If you own an iPhone, consider entering this photo contest.
Creating a photo contest as a part of a marketing strategy has many benefits. It engages fans (customers) in a creative and fun way. It spreads the word about the product to others outside your immediate fan base. It creates buzz and gives new material to promote that ultimately results in new exposure to your product.
