The Changing World of Online Photo Editing
Posted on 23. Jan, 2012 by Roger Carr in Photo tips
Online photo sites have improved tremendously over the years. However, with those improvements come other changes.
Picnik is a popular online photo editing site. It is free and full of features. Picnik is integrated with Flickr (owned by Yahoo!) to give users an easy editing capability from that photo sharing website. Picnik is the online photo editing software I use when editing on my desktop or laptop is not needed.
Picnik became a part of the Google family in 2010. Picnik recently announced it will be closing down on April 19, 2012. In that same announcement, it was reported that many of the favorite photo effects enjoyed by Picnik users are available on Google products, including Google+.
It looks to me like there is significant competition stirring in the area of online photo editing sites. It will be interesting to see how Flickr (Yahoo!) will respond regarding a new capability for their users. Ultimately, the competition should continue to provide us more capability.
